The Niagara Peninsula's rich and fertile soils and unique microclimate are suitable for growing Vitis vinifera grapes, making Niagara a prime grape-growing region. This region is on the same latitudinal band as Provence and Langeudoc-Roussillon in France, the Chianti Classico region in Italy and the Rioja region in Spain. The Dan Aykroyd winery, to be constructed in the West Niagara Peninsula, will take advantage of the lush soils and moderate climate yielding a world-class wine with supreme character celebrating the spirit of Dan Aykroyd.
In June 2007, Diamond Estates Wines & Spirits Ltd., with Dan Aykroyd announced plans to build The Dan Aykroyd Winery.
Featuring a multi-level hospitality building, the winery will be located off the QEW highway in West Niagara Peninsula, the heart of Ontario’s grape growing country.
The winery will pay tribute to the region’s terroir and to Dan Aykroyd’s 30-plus years of work in film and television by showcasing some of his favourite memorabilia throughout the building.
Designed by the award-winning firm Moriyama + Teshima Architects, The Dan Aykroyd Winery will be designed with a number of sustainable performance elements meeting environmental standards.
A date for the winery’s opening will be announced.
